~ URBAN VIPASSANA RETREAT ~

An intensive with Whit Hornsberger (4 x 3 hour sessions)

Typically and traditionally the ancient and transformative practice of insight (vipassana) meditation has been relegated to monastics and laypeople capable of spending prolonged periods of time on retreat.

Yet the beauty and power of this practice lies in its relevance and applicability to life itself. Vipassana is not separate from our lives, or something we do solely upon a meditation cushion. It is an empowering psychological training method, applicable to each and every waking moment with which we engage. From the cushion to the grocery store, to conversations with our partners, vipassana can be applied.

In the weekend urban retreat, Whit will draw upon his decade and a half of Buddhist practice experience, guiding you deeply into the refuge of your awareness through the potent and timeless teachings of the Buddhist mindfulness meditation (vipassana).

This intensive begin Friday night and end on Sunday midday. Practitioners are thus invited, if they so choose, to take a vow of silence for the duration of the weekend, both in session and out, supporting the systematic deepening of introspective self-inquiry.

The urban retreat consists of four 3-hour sessions each entailing:

  • One dhamma (philosophy) talk

  • Two sitting meditations (vipassana)

  • One walking meditation (cankama)

Sessions are held in noble silence with questions always welcomed.

We invite you to join us as we bridge the gap between urban life and retreat style practice, bringing these timeless and vitally important teachings to the urban environment.
